We’re putting on an our big annual show on 14th March this year at Cottingham Civic Hall. As well as us, we’ll have Three Crown Sound, our sister barbershop chorus, the Hull Youth Choir and Hull Ukulele Band. So quite an event. Details below. Look forward to seeing you.

We want to recruit some singers to join us to learn a couple of new songs for a BABS (British Association of Barbershop Singers) event in Harrogate in May 2026.

Our new songs are on the theme of sport – and a bit left field (pardon the pun). They are ‘Just Keep Moving the Line’ and ‘Sports Analogies’ – not well known but adapt well to our genre.

So if you are a singer – or fancy being a singer and can hold a tune – no need to read music or understand it, then this could be a good opportunity for you.

The competition attracts a couple of thousand attendees and you get to do your bit in front of a BIG appreciative audience.

You’ll learn more about singing and performance than you can believe.

The Headscarf Revolutionaries were a group of women who campaigned for better safety standards for Hull trawlers in the late 60’s. Watching the carnage in the fishing industry from lost boats and accidents at sea, they demanded better standards of safety. This especially after the Triple Trawler Tragedy in early 1968 which saw the loss of 58 lives from 3 boat which sunk in bad weather in Icelandic waters.

Today they are recognised as important campaigners whose influence on safety standards were pivotal and far-reaching for the fishing industry.

A group of Hull people with connections to the fishing industry want the Revolutionaries to be recognised with a statue and are raising funds to commission the work.

A charity concert was held at the Vauxhall Tavern on Hessle Road in Hull, and Humber Harmony were thrilled to be asked to contribute with a set of songs, including our version of ‘The Luckiest Sailor’, a modern folk classic based around the Triple Trawler Tragedy written by the late Linda Kelly and arranged by our past musical director, Jack Bridges.

We’re appearing at Hull City Hall in a benefit supporting the Lord Mayor’s charities and Variety, the Children’s Charity.

Organised by Daz Sims,  including a line up of class Hull entertainers and featuring Al Kilvo and David Barton of Two Pianos fame. It will be a great night.

We’re Learning a couple of new songs in the next few weeks (through February and March), so it’s a good time to join if you want to sing a cappella barbershop harmony.

The new songs are “Everything Little She Does is Magic”, the 80s Police classic, and “Anything Goes” from the 1930s musical of the same name.

The songs are learns mainly from audio teach tracks, so no need to be able to read music. As long as you can hold a tune you’ll be okay.

If you’ve ever fancied singing in a four part harmony group – here’s you chance. We are holding an open rehearsal to introduce new singers into being part of an a cappella choir.

You may have lots of singing experience or very little. You may know lots about music or very little. The fact is, neither of these things matter. All you need to be able to do is sing in tune* and with a little practice, the rest will come. (OK, if you’re stone tone deaf, this may not be for you).

Few of our singers have had any formal musical training and come from every age background and experience.

All parts are learned from recorded teaching tracks and are provided as part of what we do.

If it takes your fancy we meet every week on Monday nights for a two hour practice near to the centre of Hull.

Eventually you may wish to join the club and we have a small membership fee to cover the cost of the venue, music and coaching.

(*if someone can sing a note to you and you can match it by singing the same note back to them, then that’s a good start)

We’re doing our traditional Christmas concert at Cottingham Civic Hall.

Humber Harmony will be doing a couple of sets as will our club women’s chorus – Three Crown Sound.

There’ll be spots from club quartet’s, Pick-a-Pitch and the Cherry Burtones.

There’s a big raffle and a bar, so should be a good Christmas buzz.

Humber Harmony headed for the British Association of Barbershops Singers Convention in Harrogate in the final week of May and came home with the highest position and score of their history – and with the prize for ‘Most entertaining chorus’.

We adopted a ‘Pirate’ theme for our songs and our musical director, Jack Bridges, arranged two numbers from the Muppets Treasure Island movie.

Dressed. in full pirate garb we sang and choreographed a performance to put us in the top half of the contest ranking for the first time, with a score of 67.2% – best yet.

To add to that, we got the top award for entertainment from the Ladies Association of British Barbershop singers (LABBS) – beating the other 29 UK choruses.

Singers from our chorus joined together with others from our sister chorus, Three Crown Sound to enter a mixed singers competition and received The Best Small Chorus Award.

So it was a great event for us all.

We are holding a FREE open rehearsal for singers wishing to have a go at Barbershop, on Monday 11th March 2024. We’ll take you through the start of singing barbershop harmony.

We need you to be able to sing in tune and learn songs by ear.

You can let us know if you are coming, or just turn up at our normal rehearsal venue at 7 pm (see page footer). You’re welcome to stick around after the rehearsal for a visit to a nearby pub where we usually have a chat and a bit of a ‘warble’.

We’ve been trying to find a new rehearsal venue for sometimes since the closure of the ‘Gym’ in K2 Tower,  Bond Street.

We’ve struggled to find a place with just the right facilities; we needed some heat (as our last place was a little cold), and some break-out rooms where we could carry out individual practice for our sections.

For the New Year we will be trialling the Quaker Meeting House, Bean St, Hull, HU3 2PR, which seems to be offering what we need at an affordable price. So if you’re thinking about coming along to see us and having a sing, that’s where will be for the next few weeks.

Our practice songs at the moment are the well-known tune Sloop John B, which was originally made famous by The Beach Boys, and two new songs which we’re going to be singing in a competition in May of this year. Both of these are from Muppet films, – Love Led us Here and Professional Pirate. We are really going to have a lot of fun with these.
