Hull’s very own Barbershop Chorus

Welcome – If you’d like to learn to sing Barbershop Harmony or would like to book a group or quartet to sing at a function in the Hull and East Riding area, you are in the right place – so read on.

Barbershop has moved on a little over the years, and you are unlikely to see many of us standing around wearing stripy jackets and sporting straw boaters these day; so as well as some traditional stuff you might even hear a bit of Ed Sheeran or George Ezra from us now and again.

Barbershop is more about the style than the material – but it’s the harmony that counts. It sounds great, and you can hear it in Hull.

What we do

We sing. In a large group, which we call a chorus, and sometimes in smaller groups – down to a quartet (because we sing in 4 part harmony).

We practice once a week together (even virtually, in the event of Covid – damn the disease); We do gigs; concerts, parties pubs, events – anywhere we are asked.

And we compete – usually once a year in a national barbershop singing competition held by the British Association of Barbershop Singers. (BABS)

Oh and we have a good time too.

You could do it too

We are always on the look-out for new singers.

You can join us anytime at one of our Monday rehearsals. Just call to check things are running and turn up. We’ll give you some guidance on voice parts, and you can join in with what we are learning at the moment to see if you like it.

The main requirement is you just need to be able to hold a tune. No need to be a music reader or have any previous experience. All of our songs are learnt mostly by ear from mp3 files which have a recording of each part on them. Great if you can read music, but certainly by no means essential.
